Man Dead, Another Hurt in Early Friday Minneapolis Shooting
A man was killed and another injured when gunfire broke out just after midnight Friday in Minneapolis, police say.
Officers responded around 12:15 a.m. to the area of 14th Street and Nicollet Avenue after a ShotSpotter activation and multiple 911 callers reporting a shooting nearby.
When officers arrived to the scene, they found two adult men with gunshot wounds, a Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson said in a written statement.

One man was taken by ambulance to Hennepin Healthcare with injuries described as not life-threatening. Officers began CPR on the second man, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said a “gathering” was taking place near the intersection when the shooting occurred. The suspected shooter fled before officers arrived and, as of publication, no arrests have been made. MPD did not release any other details on what type of gathering was happening at the time, and no suspect information has been released.
Investigators are now examining the events that led up to the gunfire, including what might have prompted the conflict and who fired the gunshots. Detectives are reviewing area surveillance video and gathering witness statements, the department said.

“A family’s life has been forever changed by this unacceptable act of violence,” MPD Chief Brian O’Hara said in a written statement Friday. He urged the community to find “peaceful ways” to settle conflict, especially as the summer kicks off. “Every act of violence leaves a lasting impact, not just on those directly involved, but on our entire community.”
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner is expected to release the name of the man who died—along with his official cause and manner of death—in the coming days.
