Darshawn Cornelius Turner, of Minneapolis, is charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon causing substantial bodily harm, third-degree assault causing substantial bodily harm and threats of violence.

According to the criminal complaint, Metro Transit police were called to a report of a stabbing and later met the victim at North Memorial Hospital. Investigators say the victim told officers he had been waiting for a bus and speaking with a woman when Turner approached and interrupted their conversation. The victim told investigators he believed Turner was making the woman uncomfortable and told him to leave.

Court records say Turner initially walked away but returned a short time later and struck the victim in the face. Investigators say the confrontation escalated into a fight, during which prosecutors allege Turner cut the victim with a knife and threatened to kill him.

Surveillance video reviewed by investigators allegedly shows Turner striking the victim in the face before the two squared off and fought. Prosecutors say the victim swung at Turner several times but missed. Video also allegedly shows Turner repeatedly boarding and exiting a parked bus before re-engaging in the confrontation.

During the final altercation, investigators say Turner swung at the victim twice with an object in his hand, after which the victim began bleeding heavily. Audio captured by surveillance cameras allegedly recorded Turner saying, “I’m not playing. I’m one of them…talking crazy!... I will kill you. On my dead homies, I’ll kill you, bro!

Medical staff documented that the victim suffered a roughly three-inch laceration to his right forearm and a two-inch laceration on the right side of his back. Prosecutors say the the injuries damaged tendons, ligaments and included a fractured bone.

Bail was set at $50,000 with conditions that Turner have no contact with the victim and not possess weapons.

If convicted, Turner faces up to 10 years in prison for the second-degree assault charge and up to five years for each of the additional felony charges.
