Authorities said a suspect fled the area before officers arrived, but by around 10 a.m., Lakeville police located a vehicle believed to be connected to the killing. Officers initiated a traffic stop and the suspect fled on foot. He was taken into custody following a brief foot pursuit in the area of Upper 167th St. W. & Kenwood Trail and no injuries were reported during his arrest.

Formal charges have not yet filed, but Dakota County Jail records show 48-year-old Jason Philip Filas was booked on probable cause second-degree murder. Authorities said there’s no ongoing threat to the public and the case remains under investigation by Burnsville police.

A family friend identified the victim to the Star Tribune as Danielle Grace Warren, mother to three children: a 10-year-old, 5-year-old and 8-month-old.

Minnesota court records show Filas has prior convictions for misdemeanor fifth-degree assault in 2008 and a petty misdemeanor speeding violation, but no other criminal convictions in the state.

Filas is set to make his first court appearance on Friday and more information is expected once charging documents are filed by prosecutors.
