The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says the incident was reported just after 3:15 p.m. on July 19 near the sandy point of Long Point, north of Lake City.

The drowning victim has since been identified as Beverly Rodriguez, 40, a sergeant with the Metro Transit Police Department. She served as NLPOA's northern vice president and was a member of the department’s Homeless Action Team.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, employees with the U.S. Forest Service radioed in at 2:17 p.m. after locating the overturned canoe while working in the area.

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Water Patrol Unit and additional responders from Roseville, New Brighton, and Lake Johanna Fire Departments were dispatched around 7 p.m. to the Lake Owasso County Park boat launch.

One of the injured juveniles was transported to St. Cloud Hospital by Mayo Ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries, while the second juvenile was flown by North Air Ambulance to Children's Hospital for serious injuries.
