On May 24, 2026, at 7:50 P.M., Brooklyn Park Police Department officers responded to Oak Grove Park at [ADDRESS REDACTED] North in the city of Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota on report of shots fired. Dispatch advised that multiple 911 callers reported hearing between 30 and 50 shots at the park. Callers reported two groups shooting at each other. One caller described the suspects as all African American males. Another caller reported seeing shooters in a silver Toyota Camry and a black Jeep leaving the scene.
Additional callers reported hearing gun fire and seeing vehicles fleeing. One caller reported a black SUV with black rims crashed into a tree near the park entrance. Upon arrival, officers located seventy-four (74) discharged cartridge casings (DCCs) in multiple areas of the park. Officers located twenty (20) 9mm DCCs in the northwest corner of the parking lot by a vehicle that had been struck, fifteen (15) 9mm DCCs in the southwest corner of the parking lot by two struck vehicles, and twenty-two (22) 40mm & seventeen (17) 9mm DCCs under the pavilion.
Based on the distributions of the DCCs, it appeared two opposing groups shot at each other in different locations of the park. Hennepin County Crime Lab responded and processed the scene. Several additional parties reported seeing three black males seen running on the Rush Creek Trail System after the shooting. Officers checked the area and located three males, who were identified as ALVIN WOYAH GEE ([DOB REDACTED], “DEFENDANT GEE” hereinafter), KEVIN HARRIS MORRIS ([DOB REDACTED], “DEFENDANT MORRIS” hereinafter), and BEYAN SEKOU KANNEH, JR ([DOB REDACTED], “DEFENDANT KANNEH” hereinafter). When asked, DEFENDANT KENNAH told officers he had a firearm in his front waistband.
Officers recovered a 9mm Smith and Wesson Shield Plus with an extended magazine on it. DEFENDANT KENNAH also told officer he had another magazine inside his front right pocket. An inspection of the firearm revealed a ten (10) round magazine with three bullets inside. The extended fifteen (15) round magazine contained nine (9) rounds. Officers located a black Glock 17 (SN: CEPW509) handgun in DEFENDANT GEE’s waistband with an extended magazine loaded with 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition. One additional 9mm round was chambered in the weapon.
Officers also recovered a Glock 19 handgun (SN: KYP693) with an empty extended magazine tucked into his right armpit. DEFENDANT GEE was found to have a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm. A witness at the scene of the shooting, MAS [DOB REDACTED], told officers he was having a family picnic at the park pavilion when he saw two groups of individuals shooting at each other. One group of three to four black males were positioned near the parking lot, while another group was at a diagonal position across from them.
