On or about March 12, 2026, an individual identified as Antonio James Beard [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter “Defendant,” entered Valley Bike and Ski located at 7707 149th Street West in Apple Valley, which is within Dakota County. Defendant informed a staff member that he was interested in purchasing a bike for around $4,000 for his son. Defendant then asked to test ride a bicycle. The staff member asked for identification and Defendant provided her with identification belonging to a juvenile, who is fully identified in police reports, that did not belong to him.
Defendant was provided a Troxus Lynx Plus electric bike valued at $2,200 to test ride. When Defendant had not returned from his test ride after fifteen minutes, law enforcement was contacted and an officer subsequently reviewed Valley Bike and Ski’s security footage which showed Defendant ride the bike away towards a nearby Ace Hardware store. At the Ace Hardware the officer was able to review more footage which showed Defendant putting the bike on the roof of a vehicle and driving away. On March 13, 2026, the officer then applied for a search warrant for Defendant’s residence in Hennepin County, which was granted.
