On or about December 31, 2025, officers with the Inver Grove Heights Police Department responded to First Class Auto Sales located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Inver Grove Heights, which is in Dakota County, on a report of a vehicle theft. An officer spoke with a Regional Manager at U-Haul who reported that a 2012 Ford 15-foot box truck was rented out to Danika Curry-Johnson [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter “Defendant,” on September 29, 2025, from First Class Auto Sales, and had not been returned. Because the vehicle was an older model it was not equipped with GPS, and the only indication as to its location at that time was that the Regional Manager had received a bill for a toll road the vehicle had passed through in Florida.
Officers made contact with Defendant and explained that he was calling about a U-Haul truck that had been rented and not returned. Defendant stated that she had returned the vehicle, however, when asked where the vehicle had been returned to, Defendant ended the call. It must be noted that the vehicle was never returned to First Class Auto Sales, or any other U-Haul location. On October 15, 2025, the missing box truck was located parked in the 1100 block of 6th Avenue South in St. Paul. This location is roughly one block away from the address of Defendant’s boyfriend J. M. F., an adult man fully identified in police reports.
On January 6, 2026, the missing box truck was located in a small apartment parking lot in the 1500 block of Motor Avenue, South St. Paul. On January 12, 2026, an officer called Defendant, who provided her updated address as being [ADDRESS REDACTED], South St. Paul. When confronted with the fact that the missing box truck was located near her new address the only explanation, she provided was that “it’s not here,” and that she had returned it after renting it. An officer then checked the area immediately surrounding the 1500 block of Motor Avenue but was unable to locate the missing box truck.
