On January 20, 2026, at approximately 1839 hours, Brainerd officers were dispatched to a residence on Pine Street, Brainerd, Crow Wing County, State of Minnesota, for a report of a disturbance occurring. Dispatch advised that the complainant, LJW (fully identified in police reports), reported that her boyfriend, Nicholas John Lura, the Defendant herein [DOB REDACTED], was currently intoxicated, tried attacking LJW, and had put LJW's medications in the oven. Officer Kostreba responded. Officer Kostreba is familiar with the Defendant and knows the Defendant is a severe alcoholic.
Dispatch also informed Officer Kostreba that the Defendant is under Civil Commitment. That is Court File No. ••-CR-••-••••. In the commitment file there is an Order to Apprehend. Officer Kostreba made contact with LJW. LJW described the Defendant's deteriorating behavior: paranoia, delusions, agitation. LJW reported the Defendant's behavior escalated to the point he began trashing the refrigerator in the kitchen, breaking dishes, and that the Defendant slapped her across the back of the head. LJW reported the slap did not hurt but stated the Defendant's behavior made her fearful the Defendant might hurt her.
LJW also recounted how the Defendant put her medications in the oven and turned the oven on high. LJW thinks the Defendant may have been trying to start a fire. Law enforcement located the Defendant and placed him under arrest. The Defendant has two convictions for Domestic Assault from 2025.
