On May 28, 2026, at approximately 7:41 A.M., officers took a report of assaults that took place at a residence in the City of Farmington, County of Dakota, State of Minnesota. Officers met with Victim 1 and Victim 2, who both identified the suspect as JONATHAN DANIEL RIEBEL [DOB REDACTED]. Victim 1 told officers that she and RIEBEL were married but that RIEBEL was not permitted to be at her residence in Farmington. She stated that on May 27, 2026, she told RIEBEL that he could come to her residence he arrived around 10:00 P.M. While together, Victim 1 stated she and RIEBEL were drinking and at one-point RIEBEL became physical.
Victim 1 stated that while she was seated on a couch, RIEBEL kicked her in the forehead. Victim 1 stated RIEBEL also picked up a wooden stick and hit her on the top of the head with it at around 6:00 A.M. On May 28. Officers were able to observe a small bump on the top of Victim 1’s head. Victim 1 stated that Victim 2 came to the residence around 7:00 A.M. Because they had plans together. When he arrived, RIEBEL began threatening to fight Victim 2. Victim 1 was able to exit the residence to the garage but heard RIEBEL threatening to harm Victim 2. Victim 2 exited to the garage and stated that RIEBEL hit him in the chest with the wooden stick as well.
RIEBEL then left the residence but was calling Victim 2 repeatedly. During those phone calls, RIEBEL threatened to come back to the residence, set it on fire and kill himself. Victim 1 stated she could hear RIEBEL’S threats as the phone calls were on speakerphone. Victim 1 and Victim 2 then immediately drove to the police department to report the incident. Victim 2 told officers that he had arrived at Victim 1’s residence at approximately 7:15 A.M. That morning and found Victim 1 and RIEBEL in the garage.
RIEBEL became threatening with Victim 2 and stated multiple times “get the f*** out of here” and “I’m going to kill you.” Victim 2 reported seeking RIEBEL holding a box cutter as well as a wooden stick. RIEBEL began advancing on Victim 2 and when Victim 2 became cornered, RIEBEL hit him twice in the chest with the wooden stick and lunged at him twice with the box cutter. Victim 2 then told RIEBEL he would leave and RIEBEL allowed him to leave the house. Victim 2 stated that he and Victim 1 then left the house at approximately 7:20 A.M. After leaving, Victim 2 told officers that RIEBEL began calling him “nonstop” threatening to burn the house down, kill the dog, pour gasoline, and kill himself.
Officers saw Victim 2’s call log showing multiple calls from RIEBEL as well as text messages from RIEBEL stating “I will break everything,” “want me to do this,” and “yeah I f***** up 3 19HA-CR-26-759 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 5/29/2026 again.” Officers responded to the residence but did not locate RIEBEL or his vehicle. RIEBEL was located at a gas station in Inver Grove Heights at approximately 5:45 P.M. On May 28 along with his vehicle. RIEBEL was arrested and transported to the Dakota County Jail.
