On May 28, 2026, at approximately 4:48 P.M., a Trooper of the Minnesota State Patrol responded to a report of a gun being pointed at a motorist on I-35 in Dakota County, Minnesota. The Trooper spoke with Victim 1, who reported that he was driving southbound on I-35 and was in the left lane and a motorcycle was in front of him. Victim 1 reported that a vehicle was behind him and the driver appeared like he wanted to pass Victim 1’s vehicle and so Victim 1 moved to the right lane. Victim 1 reported that despite this the vehicle did not pass him and so he moved back to the left lane.
After this, the vehicle then moved to the right lane and pulled parallel to his own vehicle. Victim 1 reported that he showed his middle finger to the other driver and suddenly his passenger window shattered and he observed that the driver of the other vehicle had a black handgun pointed out the driver’s side window. Victim 1 reported to the Trooper that the vehicle then pulled away and that he observed the vehicle was a grey Volkswagon Jetta with a partial plate of “EJx1xx”. The Trooper was informed by dispatch that an anonymous driving complaint had been called in stating that a red jeep had been driving southbound on I-35 and that the driver appeared to be impaired and almost ran a motorcycle off the road at approximately 5:00 pm.
Troopers verified that Victim 1 drove a red Jeep. An officer of the Lakeville Police Department located a grey Volkswagon Jetta with license plate “EKB512” located in the area and determined that it was registered to a third party but had multiple prior contacts and a primary driver of the vehicle was Logan James Fornengo, born on [DOB REDACTED]. One of the prior contacts with the vehicle occurred on May 1, 2026, where Lakeville Police stopped Fornengo in the vehicle and he was found to have a bb gun on him and was charged with possession of a bb gun in a public place.
Troopers then contacted Fornengo, who stated that he had been driving the vehicle that day and that he had observed the red Jeep attempt to brake check him and the driver of that Jeep then flipped him off. In response to this, Fornengo stated that a passenger in Fornengo’s vehicle had thrown a penny at the Jeep and Fornengo stated that he had shot at the Jeep with the bb gun. Troopers spoke with the third party who was in Fornengo’s vehicle who corroborated that Fornengo had been upset at the Jeep’s driver and Fornengo had shot at the jeep with the bb-gun.
Troopers recovered the bb gun and determined that it was a CO2 powered.177 bb gun.
