On May 5, 2026, Crow Wing County Deputy Dan Bremner was on routine patrol on County Road 138 in Crow Wing County, Minnesota when he saw a silver Chrysler 200 heading south on County Road 138. The vehicle turned onto County Road 2 and Bremner followed. After following the vehicle for about 1 mile Bremner saw the vehicle turn onto 190th Avenue. He continued traveling east on County Road 2 past the vehicle but when he looked in his rearview mirror, he saw it stop on 190th Avenue, back up, and then drive west on County Road 2. Bremner turned around to follow the vehicle and noticed it appeared to be speeding.
He turned on his squad's radar and clocked the vehicle going at 62 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. He also saw the vehicle cross the fog line. Bremner turned on his emergency lights and stopped the vehicle. He walked up to the vehicle and spoke with the driver, who identified herself as Sheila Dohancik, [DOB REDACTED], the DEFENDANT herein. While speaking with DEFENDANT, Bremner noticed several indicators of impairment. DEFENDANT said she was coming from the casino and she had gotten lost on her way home. Bremner learned DEFENDANT's driver's license was revoked because of a prior controlled substance DWI. Bremner had DEFENDANT perform the modified Rhomberg test, during which DEFENDANT estimated the passage of 30 seconds in 38 seconds.
Bremner also saw eyelid tremors during the test. DEFENDANT claimed that she was unable to complete the one leg stand test and the walk and turn test because of back problems. Based on his observations, Bremner believe that DEFENDANT was under the influence of controlled substance. Bremner asked DEFENDANT for consent to search her vehicle, which she gave. During the search Bremner found a package of Suboxone, a Schedule III controlled substance, pre-cut small portions of tinfoil, and a pen tube. Bremner arrested DEFENDANT for DWI. During her arrest, DEFENDANT spontaneously said that she had drugs on her and retrieved a small vial containing a white substance from her back pocket and gave it to Bremner.
She also retrieved a small plastic baggie from inside her sweatshirt. The substance in the vial later field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 10.5 grams with packaging. Bremner estimated the substance without packaging weighed between 2-3 grams. Methamphetamine is a schedule II controlled substance. Later, during a Mirandized statementa DEFENDANT admitted that the substance was methamphetamine. Bremner transported DEFENDANT to a hospital in Brainerd, where he applied for and obtained a search warrant for a sample of DEFENDANT's blood or urine.
DEFENDANT provided a blood sample and then Bremner transported her to the Crow Wing County Jail, where she remains in custody. DEFENDANT has a prior DWI conviction from 2023 and prior felony convictions under Chapter 152.
