On June 11, 2026, at approximately 4:07 AM, officers received two reports of disturbances at a residential area located on Eagandale Place in Eagan, Dakota County, Minnesota. It was reported that a male was banging on the doors of three different units, yelling, had smashed a TV, and had left an apartment with a knife. Officers arrived and spoke with a full-identified female adult with the initials D. M. (herein, “Victim 1”). Victim 1 reported that everything actually began on June 10, 2026, at approximately 9:30 PM. Victim stated that her husband’s son, MARTELL KAREEM HOPKINS ([DOB redacted]), woke her up in her Eagan residence while cocking a gun.
HOPKINS told Victim 1 that he was going to kill something and was going to kill anything living in the residence. Victim 1 was the only person present, but two dogs were also present. Victim 1 recalled that HOPKINS threatened to kill her while holding and repeatedly cocking a gun. HOPKINS told Victim 1 not to say anything, or else he was going to harm her. HOPKINS grabbed Victim 1’s purse and left to go speak to Victim 1’s neighbor. Victim 1’s neighbor is a fully identified female with the initials K. G. (herein, “Victim 2”). Victim 1 explained that HOPKINS returned to her residence in the early hours on June 11, 2026. HOPIKINS woke Victim 1 up again and asked where his father was.
At some point, HOPKINS became upset, grabbed a tablet, and threw it into Victim 1’s television. HOPKINS made statements about killing somebody or doing something to someone. Victim 1 went to call 911. While that was happening, HOPKINS went into Victim 1’s kitchen and grabbed a knife. HOPKINS then also used the knife to strike the TV. HOPKINS then left the residence with the knife. Victim 2 gave a statement to police. She stated that around just before 4 AM on June 11, 2026, she awoke from some banging on her door.
She opened her door and HOPKINS was standing there. HOPKINS attempted to push his way into her apartment. HOPKINS made threats to Victim 2 about killing someone. Victim 2 continued to try to push HOPKINS back, to prevent him from getting in the residence. HOPKINS threatened to come in and kill her. Victim 2 stated that HOPKINS eventually left and went into Victim 1’s apartment. Soon after, HOPKINS came back out and began banging on Victim 2’s door again. Victim 2 did not open the door and told HOPKINS to go away.
The banging stopped, and Victim 2 could no longer see anyone outside her door through the peephole. Victim 2 then opened her door and saw HOPKINS standing outside with a large butcher knife. HOPKINS then held the knife and told Victim 2, “I’m 2 19HA-CR-26-831 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 6/12/2026 gonna kill you. The next time I see you, I’m gonna kill you.” Victim 2 said she believed HOPKINS was capable of carrying out these threats. Upon arrival to the area, officers located a male matching the description given by the victims.
