On May 1, 2026, at approximately 10:40AM Edina Police were dispatched to a shooting at a residence on the 6300 block of York Avenue South within the city of Edina, Hennepin County. Reporting party indicated their father was shot in the head. Upon arrival, officers located a male Victim [NAME REDACTED] on the floor of a residence, with blood on the floor around him. Victim was not able to respond to officers to help identify where he was shot. VICTIM [NAME REDACTED] had what appeared to be a gunshot entry wound near the left side of his neck below his ear and behind the jaw, and possible exit wound in his cheek.
Victim was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center. Investigators received a medical update later that Victim had been shot and the bullet hit and broke his C2 vertebrae. Victim has a fractured jaw and an internal dissection of his carotid artery. SUSPECT During initial statements officers learned the suspect shooter was a family member to the Victim [NAME REDACTED] one of Victim's sons: Mahamoud Hachi Farah [DOB REDACTED], herein after "Defendant". In one statement, Witness 1 indicated Defendant does “hard core” drugs and has a gun.
He has also threatened to kill [victim] and the family as well as being abusive to Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Witness 2 indicated observing an argument between Victim and Defendant and Defendant shoot Victim [NAME REDACTED]. AMMO THEFT Investigators also learned from St. Louis Park police that they had a theft of 9mm hollow point ammunition from the business Frontiersman, approximately 30 minutes prior to police being alerted to the shooting. The ammunition theft suspect was learned to be the Defendant.
The believed brand of stolen ammunition was Sellier & Bellot, the same brand of casing located at the scene of the shooting. VEHICLE Investigators learned Defendant left the location in a white vehicle later identified as a white Chevrolet Impala with Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. ARREST & SEARCH The vehicle was tracked to Cub Foods in Brooklyn Park at 7535 W. Broadway where a pursuit was initiated, vehicle blocked in and Defendant was arrested at 12:07 PM. Inside the vehicle officers located a Taurus 9mm handgun with extended magazine, 9mm Sellier and Bellot ammunition with a Frontiersman price label, the remaining loose cartridges still in the ammo box and drug residue.
Defendant was also still wearing clothing at arrest that matched his appearance in the Frontiersman store hours before. Further forensic testing is pending. WI-FI Investigators learned Defendant's phone connected to the wireless internet of a residence directly below the shooting apartment placing Defendant's phone within range to connect to the Wi-fi. Further investigation is looking into cell phone geographical locations. Defendant is currently in custody pending charges from this incident. 3 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 5/4/2026 Defendant has the following prior criminal convictions that prohibit his possession of firearms: Rice County Court file ••-CR-••-•••• felony Threats of Violence from May of 2011 with conviction on 08/20/2024. Anoka County Court file number ••-CR-••-••••, Defendant was convicted of 2nd-degree drug possession from a April 2024 incident and conviction on 01/22/25.
