On April 6, 2026, at 11:20 P.M., an Inver Grove Heights police officer stopped a vehicle in the City of Inver Grove Heights, Dakota County, Minnesota, for expired registration and speeding. The Minnesota driving privileges of the registered owner were revoked. After the vehicle eventually came to a stop, the driver, who was the registered owner of the vehicle, got out of the vehicle and began to flee on foot. The above-named defendant, Desiree Thomas, was the front seat passenger, and the only other occupant of the vehicle.
The defendant walked away from the traffic stop while the officer was dealing with the driver. The officer knew the defendant from prior contacts. The driver was placed under arrest, and the vehicle was impounded and inventoried. During the impound inventory search of the vehicle the officer found a wallet between the front passenger seat and the center console. Inside the wallet was a Minnesota identification card and debit card in the defendant’s name. Also inside the wallet was a plastic bag containing a white crystal substance that the officer believed was methamphetamine.
The methamphetamine was later preliminarily tested and the test indicated the presence of methamphetamine and it weighed 7 grams.
