On May 16, 2026, police received a report regarding a theft that had occurred on May 15, 2025, from a store located in Burnsville, Dakota County, Minnesota. Loss-prevention staff indicated that three males had worked together to select and conceal multiple items in a large box for a shop vacuum, which they removed from the box and re-taped. A fourth male took the cart with the box for the shop vacuum loaded with concealed merchandise and only paid the price of the shop vacuum. The value of the stolen merchandise was $7,041.47. In trying to identify the suspects, police learned that after leaving the Burnsville store at approximately 4:30 P.M., the same suspects went to the Golden Valley store location and used the same method to commit a theft there.
The same fourth suspect completed the purchase and loaded the box into a pickup truck with a Florida license plate, which was a CarMax temporary plate. A nationwide alert was put on the truck’s license plate. On May 31, 2025, the vehicle was stopped in Georgia, and police identified the driver and sole occupant of the truck as MAGDIEL GUEVARA GONZALEZ [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter “Defendant.” Officers were able to identify Defendant as the fourth suspect who completed the purchase of the box and carried the concealed items out of the store in both Burnsville and Golden Valley.
On June 11, 2025, a detective spoke with Defendant by phone. Defendant stated that he was not in Minnesota in May. He admitted that he was stopped in the truck used during these thefts but claimed that he was not the owner of the truck and was just borrowing it. The detective confronted Defendant with the fact that he was on surveillance video at two Minnesota stores in May, but Defendant continued to deny coming to Minnesota.
