On November 27, 2023, Minnetonka Police were dispatched to a burglary report at 11524 K-Tel Drive, Minnetonka, Hennepin County, Minnesota (SkipChips). Witness stated he arrived to the business in the morning and observed damage to the front entryway door to the vestibule. Witness’ business provided services for a 2024 Range Rover owned by the Richfield Land Rover dealership. The Richfield dealership contacted Witness to see if the vehicle was ready for pickup. Witness checked the service garage and noticed the vehicle was missing.
Witness reviewed surveillance footage, which showed a suspect inside of the business on November 25, 2023. The suspect was wearing a mask and yellow gloves. The suspect entered the Range Rover and parked it in front of the west garage door inside the business. The suspect exited the vehicle and struggled to open the garage door. The suspect attempted to reach the manual release lever but was unsuccessful. The suspect then accessed a breaker box in the service bay and restored power to the garage door.
The suspect drove the vehicle out of the garage door, closed it, and re- secured the garage service door before leaving. Another employee reported observing pry marks on the front entry to the vestibule and the front entry door to the business. On November 28, 2023, the Minnetonka Police were notified that the vehicle was located by the Minneapolis police department and brought to their impound lot. The vehicle was submitted for evidence processing. Swabbing(s) were taken from the steering wheel and gear shifter.
DNA profiling was performed, resulting in a mixture of at least four individuals with a major DNA profile obtained. On October 9, 2024, the Hennepin County Crime Lab received a CODIS match regarding the DNA profiling for BRIAN STEFAN WILLIAMS, Defendant. The investigator recognized Defendant's name from previous investigations. The investigator watched the surveillance video and observed that the suspect had similar physical appearance to Defendant. A known sample of Defendant's DNA was compared to the swabbings.
The major DNA profile from the vehicle steering wheel and gear shifter swabbings was a match to a DNA profile obtained from BRIAN STEFAN WILLIAMS, Defendant. Defendant is currently at the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
