On August 11, 2025, police were dispatched to a neighborhood located in West St. Paul, Dakota County, based on a report of a suspicious individual trying to open house doors and walking through residential backyards. Officers located a male matching the description given to dispatch. The male was later identified via fingerprints as MARCUS ANTHONY JONES [DOB REDACTED]. He initially identified himself by name and date of birth as “Jon Adam Jeffery,” however, officers could find no record of this individual.
JONES made several statements to officers related to his mental health and stated that he may have used methamphetamine. JONES had two pieces of mail in his hand and showed them to the officer when asked. The male as addressed to a residence one block over from where police stopped JONES. JONES eventually stopped speaking with officers completely and was transported to the hospital to be evaluated for drug use and mental health concerns. An officer went to the address on the mail in JONES’s possession and spoke to the resident, who stated that he had seen JONES but did not know him.
JONES was looking through the windows of the victim’s house and also went into his backyard and put his hand on the handle of the back door.
