At around 9:20 PM on May 20, 2026, officers responded to a shooting that had occurred at Johnson Parkway and Third Street East, St. Paul, Ramsey County. Officers spoke to SV [DOB REDACTED] who had a gunshot graze to his back. SV said he had been at a friend’s house for a BBQ when a man he knows as KM and another man named Anthony showed up. SV said KM is a drug dealer, and Anthony is KM’s enforcer. SV has beef with KM and Anthony, and SV heard that Anthony had been planning on shooting him. SV approached and told a friend that SV needed to leave.
SV got into the front passenger seat of his friend’s Honda Accord. SV’s friend drove. At the intersection of Johnson Parkway and Third Street East, a maroon Ford Escape with body damage on the side pulled up slightly behind the driver’s side of the Accord. SV’s friend rolled down the driver’s window to see what the other vehicle wanted, and SV saw Anthony was in the Escape’s front passenger seat. SV couldn’t see the Escape’s driver. SV heard between 7-10 pops, and he ducked down. SV felt a bullet hit his back.
SV had his friend drive him to a relative’s home where 911 was called for help. SV denied either his friend or he had firearms during the incident. SV described Anthony as around 30 years old, mixed race, 6’2” tall with a heavy build. SV said Anthony lives in the apartments by the Ace hardware store off of Payne Avenue and Phalen Boulevard. Further investigation revealed that ANTHONY EZRA SINGLETON [DOB REDACTED] lives in the apartment building SV indicated. Singleton’s physical description matches SV’s description.
SV later picked Singleton out of a photo line up as the man he knows as Anthony. SV’s friend’s Accord had 4 bullet holes in its trunk area. Officers saw a bullet hole in the front passenger seat’s backrest and a bullet on the front passenger seat. There was an additional bullet hole in the rear- center passenger seat. Officers found a spent bullet on the trunk floor. A shoe in the trunk had an entry and exit hole on each side of the shoe. Officers found a single 9mm shell casing at the intersection of Johnson Parkway and Third Street East.
Multiple 911 callers who live in the area reported the gunshots. Surveillance video showed two vehicles pulled up and stopped at a red light at Third Street East on Johnson Parkway. The vehicles were stopped at the light for around 7 seconds when rapid gunshots were fired. One of the vehicles turned right and the other turned left. On May 21, 2026, officers arrested Singleton on misdemeanor warrants. Singleton was working on his maroon Ford Escape bearing Minnesota license plates TAZ749 at the time of his arrest.
Singleton wore a crossbody bag that held a loaded Glock 9mm handgun when he was arrested. Singleton was advised of his constitutional rights and agreed to speak to police. Singleton claimed he got the gun and Escape the day of his arrest. When asked about his activities on May 20, 2026, Singleton initially said he was at a house, but he later said he was at a Motel 6. Singleton later said, “Yes,” when asked if he had been at a house party or a BBQ. Singleton became defensive when asked about the party’s location and asked the reason for the questions.
