At around 6:40 PM on May 26, 2026, officers responded to a shooting that occurred at the intersection of White Bear Avenue North and Maryland Avenue East, St. Paul, Ramsey County. Several witnesses reported a heavyset Black male fired a gun at a vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle then fired back. Officers found spent 9mm casings in the Car-X Tires and Auto shop at [ADDRESS REDACTED]. Officers also recovered.40 caliber casings in front of [ADDRESS REDACTED] East. Officers found RASHAAN VONZELL OSLER [DOB REDACTED] wearing a gray hoodie at [ADDRESS REDACTED] East with a gunshot wound to his upper back.
Osler claimed he didn’t know who shot him, and he said, “Just take me to the hospital.” A resident from [ADDRESS REDACTED] East told officers she heard gunshots and saw Osler stop between two garages. The woman recognized Osler and invited him inside to treat his injury. Osler threw an item into bushes between two garages before he entered the woman’s home. A police canine, Zeke, searched the area. Zeke displayed a change of behavior indicating he had located an article – happy feet, frozen body posture, focused looking at the article, and looking back for a reward from his handler.
Zeke’s partner saw the black pistol grip of a Springfield.40 caliber handgun on the east side of the garage at [ADDRESS REDACTED] – the same location where the woman said Osler tossed an item. The handgun was out of ammunition. A witness provided police with surveillance video of the shooting that was captured on a dashcam. The witness said while stopped he heard a guy in a gray hoodie by a bus stop arguing with two guys in the auto shop parking lot. The guy with the gray hoodie pulled out a gun and shot at the two other men.
The two men returned fire as they ran back to a black SUV. The witness’s video showed Osler firing at the two other men first. Another witness provided police with surveillance video. Osler stood at a bus stop in conversation with another man wearing yellow shorts. Another man stood by the passenger side of a black SUV. Osler drew a handgun and fired several times at the man in the yellow shorts. The man in the yellow shorts got into the black SUV’s driver’s seat, and the man who had been standing outside the passenger door got into the passenger seat.
The passenger fired at Osler from the passenger window. Osler fled west on Maryland Avenue, and the SUV chased him. Another witness told police that he was driving a cargo van east on Maryland Avenue when a heavyset Black male ran up and tried to open one of the van’s doors. The van’s doors were locked, so the man could not gain entry. The driver heard loud pops, and he saw a vehicle show down and shoot at the heavyset Black male. The witness later found two bullet holes in his van. Surveillance video showed Osler fired 4 times at another man at close range.
