On May 22, 2026, at approximately 6:50 P.M., officers were called to the hospital on the report of a stabbing victim who was seeking medical treatment. Officers responded and spoke with Victim 1. While speaking with Victim 1, officers saw an approximately half inch incision in Victim 1’s upper left chest. Victim 1 told officers that he was at his residence in the City of Rosemount, County of Dakota, State of Minnesota that evening with Witness 1 when ANDREW THOMAS COCHERELL [DOB REDACTED] came to the residence unannounced.
Witness 1 let COCHERELL into the residence and spoke with him while Victim 1 was upstairs. At one point, Witness 1 came upstairs and told Victim 1 that COCHERELL had a knife and was going to stab Victim 1. A little while later, Victim 1 heard an argument start between Witness 1 and COCHERELL and Witness 1 telling COCHERELL to leave the residence. Victim 1 went downstairs to remove COCHERELL from the residence. When he approached COCHERELL, COCHERELL raised his right hand and stabbed Victim 1 in the chest.
COCHERELL pulled the knife out of Victim 1 and held the knife by his side. Victim 1 told COCHERELL to leave the residence and he did. Victim 1 described the knife as a folding knife with an approximate three-inch blade. Officers responded to Victim 1’s residence and located Witness 1. Witness 1 told officers that COCHERELL was an ex-boyfriend who would show up uninvited on occasion. On that day, Witness 1 told COCHERELL not to come to her residence, but he did anyways. While Witness 1 and COCHERELL were talking, Victim 1 came downstairs and told COCHERELL to leave.
Victim 1 and COCHERELL then got into a physical confrontation with each other. During that fight, she heard Victim 1 say he had been stabbed and saw blood on him. She also saw COCHERELL holding what she believed was a knife. COCHERELL then fled the residence on foot. Officers obtained Witness 1’s cell phone and were able to review messages from COCHERELL stating that he was hiding in the woods near her residence and could see the police at her house. Based on the allegations in the Complaint, a warrant is requested to ensure COCHERELL’S appearance and to impose conditions of release sufficient to ensure public safety.
