On January 26, 2026, at approximately 2144 hours, Baxter officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic assault occurring at an address on Sandstone Road, Baxter, Crow Wing County, State of Minnesota. The initial reports stated the victim, EPO, was in her bedroom and her husband was intoxicated trying to kick down the door. Once officers arrived, it was determined that the belligerent party was her son, Kyle Charles Olson, the Defendant herein ([DOB redacted]). Officer Collette arrived at the residence along with Sergeant Sundgaard.
Dispatch still had an open line with EPO and was giving updates that she was still in her room and the Defendant was actively trying to get in. Collette approached the back door to the residence and heard a loud bang coming from inside the residence. Collette opened the door and made entry into the house announcing himself along with Sergeant Sundgaard. Collette went through the living area and observed the Defendant laying on the floor in the hallway with his foot in the air as though he was trying to kick the door.
Collette also observed what appeared to be a heater that was lying on its side as though it had been knocked over or kicked off a wall. Collette asked the Defendant what was going on and immediately observed the Defendant appeared to be heavily intoxicated. The Defendant was unable to talk coherently. Collette had the Defendant get up and helped the Defendant to a chair in the living room. While the Defendant spoke to other officers, Collette went to check on EPO. EPO was attempting to open her bedroom door but was initially unable to as she had barricaded the door with a chair.
Collette could hear EPO crying inside her room. EPO eventually got the door open and was sobbing while she told Collette what happened. EPO stated the Defendant is her son and the Defendant got intoxicated tonight. EPO stated the Defendant gets intoxicated almost every night. EPO stated they were watching television when the Defendant became angry and started swinging his fists at EPO and attempting to grab her. EPO stated she ran to her bedroom and barricaded herself inside. EPO stated the Defendant then began trying to kick the door down.
EPO stated the Defendant was making threats to kill her. EPO stated the Defendant called her a "b****" and was telling her he would "get her".
