On or about March 26, 2026, at approximately 6:55 p, m., Austin Police Department Officers were dispatched to [ADDRESS REDACTED] W, Austin, Mower County, MN, on a report of a stabbing. Officers were told that the person stabbed was a staff member at the residence, that the victim was outside of the residence and the person who did the stabbing was inside. Officers arrived and found Victim A, an adult male staff member of the residence, outside and holding the front of his stomach. Officers observed a wound on the bottom left portion of his stomach.
They provided medical assistance until paramedics arrived. Victim A told officers that he was in the residence and Ethan Daniel Gregg, DOB/021500, hereinafter the defendant, called him over to his bedroom. Victim A walked over to the defendant in the hallway and the defendant came out of his room and stabbed him in the stomach. He stated that everyone other than the defendant then left the residence. Victim A was transported to the hospital by the paramedics. A different staff member (Witness A) told officers that the defendant had been acting strangely.
He confirmed the defendant had called for Victim A and when Victim A went to him, the defendant stabbed Victim A in the abdomen, Officers located the knife described by the witnesses in the kitchen area. It was a steak knife. Officers entered the residence and determined that the defendant had fled before they arrived. They were later able to locate the defendant's vehicle and make a traffic stop. The defendant was taken into custody.
