On July 25, 2025, Apple Valley Police officers received a report regarding a theft having occurred the night before at a residence in Dakota County. Officers spoke with the reporting party, “Victim” herein, who stated that he had left his e-bike in the driveway of his friend’s house between 8:00 P.M. And 11:00 P.M., and found it missing when he was going to leave. Victim gave the officers specific details about the bicycle, including custom pieces added and the serial number. Victim reported the bicycle to be valued at $5,000. On July 28, 2025, Victim [NAME REDACTED] had been posted on Facebook Marketplace by a male identified to be Michael Ray Reller [DOB REDACTED], “Defendant” herein.
Victim noted the specific additions to the bike that he had made, which allowed him to confirm it was his. Officers set up a Facebook profile and arranged a meeting with Defendant in Bloomington to purchase the bike. Officers confronted Defendant during the meeting and Defendant allowed the officers to recover the bike. The officers confirmed by the serial number that it was Victim’s bike. Defendant provided his phone number to the officers at that time. Officers then obtained a warrant for Defendant’s cellphone location data.
Through the data, officers learned that Defendant’s phone was in the immediate area of the location where Victim’s bike was stolen, during the time frame when it was stolen.
