On August 22, 2025, officers of the Hastings Police Department responded to a report of a theft from a residence located in the City of Hastings, Dakota County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Victim 1 who is the owner of the house and reported that Dylan Robert Peterson, born on [DOB REDACTED], was her son and had reported that items were missing from the garage. Peterson stated that he received a phone call from a friend, Enzo David McNamara, born on [DOB REDACTED], who had asked him why he was still awake as McNamara had noted that the garage door was open and the garage light was on.
Peterson then stated that he had went into the garage and found two electric scooters missing. On August 29, 2025, officers of the Hastings Police Department were checking online marketplaces when they located a post by McNamara in which he was selling two electronic scooters for $400. Officers reviewed the photos and showed them to Peterson who identified the scooters as the stolen scooters. During this process, officers spoke with Peterson and Peterson stated that he had texted McNamara about the scooters and that he had told him to return the scooters, to leave them at a park, and that he had not given McNamara permission to take the scooters.
Officers noted that during their conversation with Peterson, he was nervous, avoided eye contact, and appeared to be under the influence. Shortly after talking to Peterson, officers also noted that the marketplace posting for the stolen scooters had been taken down. Officers then spoke with McNamara, who stated that Peterson had sold the scooters to McNamara in order to buy “dope.” McNamara told officers that he had since sold the scooters. McNamara further told officers that Peterson had stolen the scooters from Peterson’s parents and that Peterson had played it off that someone else had stolen the scooters.
Officers asked McNamara about text messages that had been sent to Peterson and McNamara stated that Peterson had wanted to play out the theft for Peterson’s parents. McNamara stated that the scooters were worth $600 and that he gave Peterson $140 to buy two grams of “dope.” Enzo David McNamara was convicted on March 19, 2025, for felony theft in Court File ••-CR-••-••••.
