On February 24, 2026, Minneapolis Police Officers were dispatched to the Abbott Apartments located at 110 18 St East in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, on a shooting call. Responding officers located Victim, a known adult male, and Witness A in a lounge room off of the lobby. Victim [NAME REDACTED] from gunshot wounds. Officers spoke to Witness A who reported that he was friends with Victim [NAME REDACTED] went to the Abbott Apartments to hang out with “AK” who was later identified as Abdirahman Khayre.
Witness A reported that AK appeared to be stalling and left the room multiple times. Witness A stated that he started to get suspicious but hadn’t left yet when AK returned. At that time three armed men burst into the room and yelled “Give me everything”. Witness A reported that the men had two Glocks with extensions and one AR- style Rifle. According to Witness A, the men pointed guns at him and stole two guns from him. Witness A reported that one of his guns, a Glock, was handed to AK. Witness A stated that the men wanted a Louis Vuitton bag that Victim [NAME REDACTED], but Victim did not want to give it up.
According to Witness A, this led to a fight between Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Witness A stated that he tried to walk towards Victim, but AK racked the gun now in his possession and pointed it at him. Witness A left the room and ran into the lobby where he heard multiple gunshots. Witness A reported that after the shots, we saw two of the suspects flee out of the back door of the building. He stated that he did not see where AK or the other suspect went. Witness A stated that he returned to the Lounge and found Victim shot.
Officers reviewed surveillance video from the building. The video shows a male in dark clothing waiting near the back door before letting two other males inside. One of the males who enters appears to be a tall, thin black male with mid-back length dreads wearing a tan canvas jacket and light-colored blue jeans. The three males pause to have a discussion amongst themselves before rushing into the room where Victim [NAME REDACTED]. A short time later the Witness A runs to the front door while two of the suspects, including the male in the tan jacket, run out the back door to a waiting vehicle.
The male in tan appears to be holding a rifle as he runs out the back door. Officers conducted a further review of the video and determined that the suspect in the tan jacket bears a strong resemblance to MOHAMED AHMED IBRAHIM, the defendant herein. Initial CAST analysis has been completed which shows the defendant’s phone travel from his residence at 3239 4th Ave S to the scene of the homicide at the time of the homicide. The Cast indicates that the phone's movement was consistent with the locations of the suspect in the tan jacket.
