On March 26, 2026, officers received a referral regarding a domestic assault that occurred on March 19, 2026, at a residence in Inver Grove Heights, Dakota County. Victim had reported the father of her child, [NAME REDACTED] WASHINGTON [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, had assaulted her by punching her in the jaw with a closed fist and choking her. Victim’s toddler was present in the residence during the assault. An officer was able to speak with Victim on March 30, 2026, after Victim [NAME REDACTED] had sent Victim a photo of damage inside her apartment.
When asked about the prior assault, Victim reported Defendant became upset after finding out Victim had a new phone after he sold her previous one. Victim and Defendant argued about the phone before returning to Victim’s residence. While in the residence, Defendant punched Victim [NAME REDACTED], pushed her on the bed, and put his hands around her neck, choking her for approximately thirty seconds. Victim could not breathe and thought she was going to lose consciousness and die. Victim grabbed her minor [NAME REDACTED] went to a nearby office for safety.
Defendant approached Victim [NAME REDACTED] in his car, apologized, and asked her to get in. Victim declined and later left the residence. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had not returned to her residence since then. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in a relationship with Defendant for approximately four years and that he had previously assaulted her. Defendant was located and taken into custody on April 1, 2026. Defendant gave a Mirandized statement, during which he admitted to a verbal argument at Victim’s residence, but said Victim was making up the assault.
Defendant has a prior conviction for domestic assault on 07/01/21 in 62-CR-20-4569. Defendant also has convictions for strangulation and DANCO violation in separate files in 2010.
