On January 3, 2026, at approximately 10:22 P.M., Brainerd Police Officer Jordan Host observed a motorcycle parked at the gas pumps at the Speedway on South 6th Street in Brainerd, Crow Wing County, Minnesota. The officer saw a vehicle parked behind the motorcycle with two males working on the motorcycle. The motorcycle did not have a license plate affixed to it and Officer Host recalled a similar motorcycle that had run from him in November. Officer Host pulled up in front of the motorcycle and a male in all black began walking away.
The officer stopped the male who he immediately recognized as Garrett William Doppler [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "defendant." Officer Host asked defendant where his license plate was and defendant stated he had taken it off for the winter and was just moving it. Officer Host was aware that defendant had a revoked driving status, which was later confirmed by Dispatch. Defendant denied driving the motorcycle despite the muffler being warm to the touch. During the investigation, officers located a grenade in the pocket of the vehicle's passenger, Jake Sharber- Pikula, who stated that defendant had given it to him and he was not sure if it was real or not.
Defendant stated that the grenade was fake. Officers contacted the bomb squad who initially stated that the grenade appeared to be real, but after responding, determined it was a replica. Sergeant Pallansch reviewed security video from Speedway and confirmed that defendant was seen driving the motorcycle up to the gas pump. Officers secured defendant and he was searched for additional weapons and placed under arrest for Driving after Revocation, Unregistered Vehicle, and Uninsured Vehicle. During a search of defendant, officers located two small plastic bags containing suspected fentanyl, as well as two suspected methamphetamine pipes and a hypodermic needle.
Defendant has the following prior conviction under Minn. Stat. Sect. 152: - Convicted of 5th degree controlled substance possession in court file ••-CR-••-••••.
