SCANNER: Man Fires Gun at Traffic Near I-494 in Bloomington; Dies of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

BLOOMINGTON: Officers from multiple jurisdictions were in an armed standoff with a man who was reported to have fired several gunshots in the area of Portland Ave. S. & I-494 on Thursday, March 18. - Police blocked I-494 in both directions as they attempted to negotiate with the man, who was reported to have fired several groups of gunshots and was repeatedly yelling at officers to shoot him.

More shots were fired by the suspect just before 6:45 p.m., according to emergency dispatch audio, and a SWAT team and BearCat armored vehicle were called to the scene. Traffic on multiple other roads was blocked, with authorities working to shut down businesses in the immediate area. Bloomington police later said there were no reports of anyone else injured in the incident.

The man continued to fire shots before officers reported that he had turned the gun on himself. Police moved in and confirmed that he had died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound by 6:50 p.m. - I-494 and several ramps and frontage roads were set to be closed for at least several hours as processing of the scene and investigation continued.
