Oak Grove Man Charged After Ramsey Pursuit, Crash

An Oak Grove man is facing felony charges for allegedly fleeing from an attempted traffic stop in Ramsey and flipping his vehicle during the pursuit.

On May 8, 2023, around 12:45 a.m., a Ramsey police officer on routine patrol witnessed a known person with a revoked driver's license leaving a gas station in a Toyota Camry.

The officer attempted to pull over the driver after witnessing him run a stop sign, but the driver—later confirmed to be Cody Kenneth Meyer, 28—refused to stop and began speeding away, reaching speeds over 95 MPH. Eventually, near the intersection of Nowthen & St. Francis Blvd., Meyer lost control of the car, causing it to flip upside down and come to a stop. The pursuing officer, along with other officers, were then able to apprehend Meyer, who did not sustain any serious injuries in the crash.

During a search of the vehicle and the area surrounding the crash, an officer discovered two plastic bags near the driver's side window. One bag contained 9.9 grams of methamphetamine in a white crystal form, while the other bag contained 8.4 grams of methamphetamine in a rock-like form. In total, 18.3 grams of methamphetamine were seized, according to court documents.

Meyer has been charged with felony 3rd-degree possession of a controlled substance as well as felony fleeing a peace officer.

Meyer also faces felony possession charges earlier this year after police were called to a gas station in Fridley around 6 a.m. on April 13, where the driver was said to be unconscious in a BMW left running at a gas pump. Responding officers were able to wake the driver, Cody Meyer, explaining they were checking his welfare and asked him to exit the vehicle. According to court documents, Meyer—who was compliant—placed the Gucci bag he had “strapped” to his chest on the driver’s seat and informed officers that it contained an “airsoft gun” and agreed to allow the officers to check it to confirm.

Upon opening the bag, the officer discovered Meyer's Minnesota identification card, a .177 pellet gun pistol, drug paraphernalia, and four zip-top bags containing a white/crystal-like substance. The bag also contained additional clean zip-top bags commonly used for repackaging drugs.

Subsequent field tests confirmed that the white/crystal-like substance in the four bags was methamphetamine. The total weight of the methamphetamine found in the bags was 27 grams, with individual amounts of 0.9 grams, 1.1 grams, 0.5 grams and 24.5 grams.

Meyer also has two prior felony drug convictions in 2019 and 2021.
