AUDIO/VIDEO: Minneapolis Police Pursue Armed Carjacking Suspect

Early Saturday morning, Minneapolis Police Officers attempted to stop a vehicle taken in an armed carjacking, but the suspect ultimately evaded capture. Squads reported that the suspect vehicle had no lights on, and at times reached speeds of 100 miles per hour.

The pursuit began in south Minneapolis and briefly entered the area of George Floyd Square at 38th Ave S & Chicago Ave. The pursuit entered Saint Paul for a brief period as it crossed over the Lake St bridge and then going north on Prior Ave to I-94. The suspect entered I-94 west and continued back into Minneapolis. The chase continued west on I-94 to Cedar Ave, where they exited from the freeway and continued south.

A squad involved in the chase reported they were involved in a crash near 26th St S & Nicollet Ave and could no longer continue in the chase. Other officers continued pursuit. A short time later, the vehicle began traveling the wrong direction on 1st Ave S at high speed, and the pursuit was terminated.

Medics were called for the officers involved in the crash for minor injuries. The intersection was blocked as police investigated the crash and medics attended to the officers.
