On April 22, 2025, at approximately 10:25 A.M., an individual incarcerated at the Minnesota Correctional Facility at Rush City ("MCF-Rush City") was walking towards stairs within MCF-Rush City, located within Chisago County, Minnesota. The individual's initials are E. F. ("the victim"). At this time, another individual, KEANU JOSEPH MAJOR, SR., [DOB REDACTED] ("the Defendant"), who was at that time also incarcerated at MCF-Rush City, approached the victim and delivered nunmerous poking jabs towards the victim's head, neck, and body.
Correctional officers at MCF-Rush City deployed chemical irritants, at which point the Defendant disengaged with the victim, dropped a weapon, and was secured by staff. Video review of this assault showed the Defendant to have an object in his hand while striking the victim [NAME REDACTED]. The victim was ultimately brought to Health Services within the prison, and he was found to have sustained numerous puncture and laceration wounds to his right cheek, chest, back, arms, legs, and sides of his torso.
The victim [NAME REDACTED]. A team of correctional officers arrived on scene, during which time one officer observed a shank on the ground. An investigator with the Minnesota Department of Corrections reviewed the shank that was submitted into evidence. This shank consisted of a sharpened toenail clipper with a makeshift handle.
