On April 7, 2026, at approximately 5:30 P.M., Saint Paul Officers responded to the 1300 block of University Avenue, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on a domestic assault. Officers met DLE in a neighbor’s apartment. DLE was with her five-month-old baby. DLE said she and her boyfriend-ANTWAN MISTER CARPENTER, [DOB REDACTED]-live together. She and CARPENTER were lying in bed together. They argued about her being on Snapchat and doing something she should not have done. CARPENTER took her phone. They continued to argue.
She got up. CARPENTER pushed her back onto the bed with both of his arms and she landed on her back. CARPENTER used his right elbow on her neck to hold her down, pressed into her neck and caused her breathing problems. CARPENTER used his left hand to press down on her stomach, preventing her from getting up. She said, “I can’t breathe.” CARPENTER said, “You wanna die?” He told her that he was not going to let her up. She moved around to try to get away. CARPENTER stopped strangling her and punched her in the head.
At some point, she was able to get up and move away. She tried to leave the apartment, but CARPENTER pulled her hair to try to stop her from leaving. She was able to get to her neighbor’s apartment and called police. CARPENTER fled the scene. DLE had a bump on the right side of her forehead. While officers spoke to DLE, CARPENTER returned to the apartment and was arrested. DLE complained of a headache and requested to be seen by medics. During blueprint questions, DLE said while being strangled, she was a little lightheaded and it was hard to breathe.
She said she has a sore throat. She thought CARPENTER was going to kill her. After a Miranda advisory, CARPENTER spoke to an officer. He said he and his girlfriend, DLE, had been arguing throughout the week. They argued about DLE having a Snapchat account. They argued from around 3:00-4:00 P.M. He said he wanted to take their baby who was asleep on their bed. DLE held onto to him to stop him from leaving. DLE held onto his hands and blocked him from leaving. This continued in the hallway and into the west stairwell of the building.
They continued into the garage and basement area of the building. He was able to leave at around 5:00 P.M. CARPENTER said he did not put his hands on DLE. He did try to brush her off and get her to let go of him so he could leave. He had no idea how DLE got the bump on her forehead. He texted DLE and asked if they were “gonna fix this.” She did not respond and he returned to the apartment to talk about their argument.
