On May 21, 2026, officers responded to the Lynwood Pointe Apartments in Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, Minnesota on the report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers met with the Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Officers immediately noted the Victim’s voice to sound raspy while speaking. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] had just been assaulted by her boyfriend, DAMARIEUS DESHAUN JONES [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. The Victim described that she and Defendant had been dating for 9 years and have a young child [NAME REDACTED]. Prior to police arrival, Defendant returned home and was upset the Victim had not prepared his food.
He began throwing food around the kitchen, and the Victim [NAME REDACTED]. They got into an argument and Defendant headbutted her. The Victim tried to walk away but Defendant followed and pushed her into the bedroom. There, Defendant put her in a chokehold and squeezed, preventing her from breathing. She estimated her air to be cut off for approximately 7 seconds. During this assault, the Victim had a friend, Witness 1, over at the apartment. Witness 1 rushed over and separated them. Witness 1, Victim, and the two young children went to the apartment complex common area to get away from Defendant and call 911. Witness 1 corroborated the Victim’s recounting of the assault and strangulation.
When officers went back to the apartment, the back screen door was open and Defendant was gone. Defendant then called the Victim’s phone. The Victim answered and officers heard Defendant call her a “whore” and “b****” and talked about being unhappy with the “white girl” who had been in the apartment. Officers determined the “white girl” to be Witness 1. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] has physically abused her in the past. Officers cleared the scene. About an hour and a half later, officers were dispatched back to the Lynwood Pointe Apartments as Defendant had returned.
The Victim [NAME REDACTED] was actively trying to get inside the back patio door. Officers arrived and located Defendant as well as broken glass shards outside the patio door. They took Defendant into custody. Defendant kicked and damaged the patrol car and was physically aggressive with police during his arrest. Defendant has the following qualified domestic violence related offense convictions: ••-CR-••-••••: Assault 5 (convicted 01/10/2022) ••-CR-••-••••: Assault 5 (convicted 01/30/2017) Defendant is currently in custody.
