On October 30, 2025, at approximately 3:04 P.M., Saint Paul Officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Norton Street, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on an assault. Officers were told the suspect-DERRIAN BARBER, [DOB REDACTED]-pointd a gun at victims. Officer Vang arrived in the area and was flagged down by DJS and LSJ. LSJ said the suspect, BARBER, pointed a rifle at them and threatened to shoot them. LSJ said BARBER is DJS’s boyfriend. BARBER exited the residence through the rear, and was arrested.
DJS told officers that earlier in the day, she and BARBER argued about his on-line gambling addiction. The argument became heated and she left to LSJ’s house. BARBER texted her and threatened to destroy her computer and assault her. She and LSJ returned to her house to get her computer. She got her computer and was on her way toward the front door. BARBER blocked her from leaving, grabbed one of her arms, and threw her to the floor, causing bruises on her wrist. LSJ told BARBER to leave her alone.
She and LSJ walked out to the front porch. BARBER went out to the porch with a rifle in his hands, pointed the rifle at them, and threatened to shoot them. BARBER’s father exited the house, told him to stop, grabbed the rifle, and told him to go inside. LSJ said she went to the house with DJS because BARBER was mad. He threatened to break DJS’s computer. While outside, she saw through the screen that BARBER had DJS on the floor and hit her multiple times. LSJ went inside and got DJS outside. While they were outside, BARBER went onto the front porch with a black “AR” rifle, pointed it at them, and said, “I’ll kill all you mother fuckers.” DJS gave officer permission to search the house for the rifle and gave them information on where it might be found.
Officers found the rifle-American Tactical MilSport- under the stairs leading into the basement. The rifle had a magazine with multiple rounds, round in the chamber. The rifle was under a large black trash bag that had cushions in it. DJS said the rifle belonged to BARBER. A live cartridge was found on the couch in the basement. In a subsequent interview with an investigator, DJS said she has been in a relationship with BARBER for seven years. BARBER’s belongings are at the residence and he visits her many times at the residence.
