St. Paul police officers responded to Landmark Jewelers, 402 St. Peter Street, St. Paul, Ramsey County, to take a report of theft of jewelry from the business on June 27, 2025. The theft was captured on high- quality security video. Police learned that a male and a female, later identified as Piticu Anghel, [DOB REDACTED], and Mariana Anghel, [DOB REDACTED], came into the store and selected numerous items of expensive jewelry. The items were arranged on a selection tray. The couple stated that they wanted to purchase a gift for their daughters.
They requested a decorative gift box. Mariana Anghel insisted that she arrange the jewelry in the gift box instead of having the store manager, ALJ, [DOB REDACTED], box the purchases. Piticu Anghel presented ALJ with 120 x $20 bills for payment. As ALJ counted the numerous small bills, and Mariana Anghel manipulated the jewelry items in the box, Piticu Anghel pocketed the following: 14kyw Two Tone Hallow 18” Necklace, Consignment Estate, $3600 14ky 7.5” 15mm Wide Woven Bracelet, Consignment Estate, $5450 After the sleight-of-hand pocketing of the jewelry, ALJ informed the couple that there was not enough cash to cover the purchase.
She returned the money to them, and they left the store with the stolen jewelry. ALJ did not discover the theft until well after the couple left the store. Investigation revealed that the couple are part of the Roma Anghel organized crime family who use this modus operandi to steal jewelry, coins, and valuable antiques in Europe, The United States, Canada, Singapore, and Australia. Investigators compared known photographs of the couple to the security video from the Landmark Jewelry theft and they are an exact match.
