On January 6, 2026, at about 1:20pm, St. Louis Park Police were assisting in a multi-agency effort to find a stolen vehicle. They had found and were watching that particular while it was parked behind an apartment building located on the 2600 block of 16th Ave S in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, when officers' attention was drawn to a silver 2011 Chevy Equinox parked in the same lot. The Equinox had no front license plate and was backed into its parking spot, facing the known stolen vehicle. In officers' training and experience, people often take the license plates off of stolen vehicles in order to conceal their stolen status.
Officers started to move in to recover the known stolen vehicle, and the Equinox began to leave, blocking the entrance. The Equinox reversed, appearing to allow officers to enter the lot, but drove forward again to go around the squad vehicle when its emergency lights activated. The Equinox lost traction in the snow and sideswiped the squad vehicle. Another officer activated his emergency lights, and the Equinox attempted to turn and drive away, but officers successfully boxed it in. The driver, later identified as ROBERT LEE BRODERSON [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, then got out of the vehicle and started running away, resulting in a foot chase.
When officers eventually apprehended Defendant, he was believed to be overdosing and was given Narcan and brought to the hospital for evaluation. The Equinox was confirmed stolen, and one of its license plates was found inside the vehicle. Defendant is currently in custody at Hennepin County Jail.
