On May 25, 2026, Minneapolis Police officers were dispatched to a residence located on the 4000 block of Snelling Avenue S in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota on the report of a shooting and injured individual. The 911 caller was identified as DANIEL EVERETT KRUEGER, DEFENDANT herein. During the 911 call, Defendant was screaming that his father, Victim herein, was bleeding very bad. Defendant refused to give coherent information about what had transpired and just kept swearing. Defendant claimed that Victim had a gun out, pointed it, and shot it not knowing it was hot.
Defendant stated that he took the gun away. He stated that Victim [NAME REDACTED], and that the gun went off more than once. He could be heard trying to get his father's attention by saying keep breathing and stated that Victim was making a "snoring" sound. About five minutes into the 911 call, another shot can be heard followed by Defendant saying, "Oh s***!" Defendant refused to tell emergency personnel how Victim [NAME REDACTED]. When officers arrived, they encountered Defendant leaning over Victim applying pressure to a gunshot wound to Victim's head.
A firearm was located directly next to him on the floor of the living room next to a recliner. A loaded magazine was on the floor next to the firearm. Officers secured the weapon and found that there was a non-ejected cartridge casing in the firearm which can occur when someone holds the slide when a firearm is shot. Victim [NAME REDACTED] on scene and transported to the hospital. Victim sustained a non-survivable brain injury from the gunshot wound. As of the writing of this complaint, law enforcement has not received notice that he has passed away but all life-saving measures have been removed.
In a search of the residence, crime lab personnel noticed a bullet hole in the ceiling of the living room, and a metal fragment was on the floor nearby. Two discharged cartridge casings were located in one of the bedrooms. Officers spoke with the next-door neighbor, who indicated that over the past few weeks, she had heard Defendant and Victim arguing. She indicated that she had heard Victim telling Defendant to "get the f--k out of here." The neighbor recalled that last week, she heard an argument followed by a gun being shot inside the home or in the front of the home.
The neighbor recalled that Defendant is unstable and has been out in the yard naked firing off a gun recently. Defendant was transported to the police department to provide information regarding what happened. Defendant immediately started talking and indicated that his dad had just gotten out of the hospital and so he bought them some alcohol, which they drank together. Defendant indicated that their home was going through a pre-foreclosure process and things were stressful. Defendant continued to speak but his narrative was disjointed.
