Your complainant is Detective Kate Damm with the Maple Grove Police Department. Your complainant states that on December 1, 2025, officers were dispatched to a townhome complex in Maple Grove, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a witness, and R. R. Herein “Victim”. The witness reported that she was in her unit and heard what sounded like something heavy drop; it sounded like it came from the Victim’s unit. The witness then walked out of her unit and yelled downstairs asking if everything was ok.
The witness observed a man who appeared to be the Victim’s son come out of the Victim’s unit. He was banging and yelling loudly on the door. The witness called 911. The Victim reported to law enforcement that her son, JOSEPH SCOTT GUSTAFSON, [DOB REDACTED], has been living with her and that his mental illness gets worse when he uses drugs; she thinks he has relapsed. The Victim [NAME REDACTED] was in the kitchen of her unit when her son became upset after she asked him about making a doctor’s appointment.
GUSTAFSON’s behavior continued to escalate. He began yelling at the Victim and calling her a “c***”. GUSTAFSON violently flung papers and other items towards the Victim. The Victim yelled for GUSTAFSON to stop. GUSTAFSON’s behavior escalated even more; he continued throwing things at the Victim [NAME REDACTED] at her. The Victim went to leave to speak with the witness who had yelled down, when GUSTAFSON forcefully pushed the Victim [NAME REDACTED], causing her to strike the washing machine with the right side of her body and fall to the floor.
GUSTAFSON then slammed the door and left the unit. GUSTAFSON left the scene before officers arrived; officers are still unable to locate him. GUSTAFSON has a domestic assault conviction from September 2020 in court file ••-CR-••-••••.
