Probable Cause
On March 13, 2026, at 1924 hours, St. Paul police officers responded to an apartment on Stevens Avenue, St. Paul, Ramsey County, for a domestic assault. SMS, [DOB REDACTED], said that her ex-boyfriend, Jaylen Isiah Holmes, [DOB REDACTED], had been staying with her for a couple of days because he did not have hot water. He asked her for a ride to visit his daughter who lives 3 hours away. She declined. He then asked to use her car. She again declined. He took her keys. He pushed her away. He then wrapped his hands around her neck and strangled her.
She had difficulty breathing. There was ringing in her ears. He called her a bitch and told her that he had all the control. He left the scene with her keys, including her apartment keys. He left in an Uber. Officers observed and photographed parallel, linear, red bruises to the left side of SMS’s neck.
