On November 24, 2025, law enforcement received a 911 call from a citizen who observed a male, later identified as Derrick Leshone Harris, [DOB REDACTED], aka Derrick Lashaun Harris (hereinafter Defendant), showing a gun to another person near the emergency entrance at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The 911 caller stated they heard the Defendant state that he carried the gun because people were trying to kill him. Law enforcement later located the Defendant near 7th St and Nicollet Mall based on the description given by the 911 caller as well as Milestone Camera monitoring.
The Defendant was openly drinking from a beer can when law enforcement located the Defendant. Officers observed a bulge, with ridged lines, in his right pants pocket that appeared to be an L shape and resembled the outline of a pistol. Officers conducted a pat frisk for weapons and felt an object in the Defendant’s rights pants pocket that felt like a pistol. Officers removed the object and discovered a Ruger.22 caliber pistol wrapped in a paper bag. The Defendant is prohibited from carrying ammunition and firearms due to a Threats of Violence conviction in court file number ••-CR-••-••••. The Defendant is in custody.
