Notice: Pursuant to Minnesota Rule of Criminal Procedure 7.02, the prosecution provides notice that, at trial, the State will offer evidence of the following offenses, in addition to the offense herein charged, for the purpose of proving the motive, intent, preparation, plan, and identity of the perpetrator. ••-CR-••-•••• On 3/20/2017, CATE got into an argument with his roommate. During the confrontation, CATE went out to his vehicle, retrieved a semiautomatic firearm from his vehicle, and then shot his roommate.
CATE was convicted of 2nd Degree Assault. Current offense: On 01/28/2026 at about 1156 hours, a Minnesota State Trooper was dispatched to investigate a gun pointing incident that had just happened on southbound 35E near the Highway 52 exit in St. Paul, Ramsey County. The Trooper spoke to TH who said he was driving his Peterbilt semitruck south on 35E near Maryland Ave when he was nearly hit by a white SUV that was changing lanes. TH said it was possibly a GMC Yukon and its license plate was MN/9TK260. TH said he honked his horn to alert the SUV’s driver.
The SUV swerved away, slowed down, and got behind TH’s truck. When TH changed lanes, the SUV pulled along side him. As it did, TH saw that the SUV’s front passenger window was down. The SUV then slowed down as it got alongside TH. The driver of the SUV then held up a pistol in his right hand, pointed the barrel at TH, and shook the gun up and down. As he did, the driver of the SUV mouthed something at TH. TH said he was afraid he was going to be shot. He said the semiautomatic gun was black and looked like a Glock.
He described the SUV driver as a white male, darker complexion, 30 to 40 years old, light facial hair growth, and a lean build. TH also described the driver’s clothes. He said the driver looked like a gangster because he was wearing baggy clothes and had his stocking cap pulled down to his eyes. The Trooper ran the SUV’s license plate which registered to a white 2013 GMC Yukon. A KOPS alert was issued for the vehicle. At about 1315 hours, St. Paul Police spotted the vehicle at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in St. Paul, Ramsey County.
Jordan Alexander CATE [DOB REDACTED] was in the driver’s seat smoking marijuana. CATE was detained. CATE admitted that he had been involved in a driving altercation with a semi and said he hoped police had arrested the other driver for nearly running him off the road. CATE denied pointing a gun at the other driver and said he only he gave the semi driver the middle finger. CATE denied consent to search the vehicle. CATE matched the physical description that TH had provided to the Trooper. A Trooper sent TH a picture of the SUV, which TH positively identified.
The Trooper also sent TH a photo of CATE, who TH positively identified as the suspect who pointed the gun at him. Pursuant to a search warrant, Troopers searched the SUV. During that search they found a black Taurus semiautomatic.45 caliber pistol hidden in the center console. The pistol was loaded. They also found 3 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 1/30/2026 numerous documents bearing CATE’s name. Troopers spoke to the vehicle’s registered owner, SNF, who said he sold the vehicle to CATE via Facebook Marketplace on 08/29/2025 and that he took a photo of CATE’s Driver’s License at the time of the sale.
