On April 20, 2026, around 12:37 P.M., St. Louis Park Police were alerted to a stolen license plate that was on a car driving and had previously been reported stolen on April 17, 2026, out of Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Police located the car driving northbound on Highway 100 from eastbound Highway 7, St. Louis Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers followed the car and noticed that the car was driving between 30-50mph on a road with a posted speed limit of 30mph. Officers attempted to stop the car and there was a short period of time where the car did not stop and attempted to flee from officers.
Eventually the car was stopped. The driver of the stolen car was identified as Kyla Ann Stephens, “Defendant” herein, and was arrested. Officers determined that the stolen license plate belonged to a different car and that the car that was stopped had also previously been reported stolen out of Minneapolis around 3/25/2026. Victim, a known adult man, previously reported that his car had been stolen parked outside of his residence and that he had the only set of keys. Officers noted that the ignition of the stolen car was punched and could be started without a car key.
Defendant provided a Mirandized statement where she said the car was not hers and she was just driving it and started driving it on this day but was unable to identify or provide a name of who she got the car from. Defendant is currently in custody.
