On April 21, 2026, at approximately 3:12 P.M. Law enforcement responded to a domestic assault call at a home in Moorhead, Clay County, MN. At the scene, officers made contact with victim. She stated that she had come to her ex-boyfriend's residence to pick up some of her belongings that he had allowed her to store there. She identified her ex- boyfriend as EVAN KASADINE MCMILLAN, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "Defendant". Victim [NAME REDACTED] had gotten in an argument and the argument continued into a narrow hallway.
Defendant got too close to her, and she pushed him back and stated that she would get a knife if he ever touched her again. Victim then ran to the kitchen to retrieve a pocketknife from her purse. Defendant chased after her and grabbed victim [NAME REDACTED]. Defendant grabbed victim's neck with both hands wrapped around her neck and victim could not breathe or scream for help. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was going to die. After a few seconds, Defendant slammed Victim to the ground by her neck. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was struggling on the ground and pulling each other's hair.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] during the fight on the ground. The assault only ended when victim's juvenile son came out from the back of the residence and broke up the fight. Defendant fled the residence before law enforcement arrived. Law enforcement observed the following injuries on Victim: a partially missing, bloody fingernail, a bruise on her forehead, a bump on the top of her head. Victim could not recall when the bruise on her head occurred because it all happened so quickly. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had been pulled out during the altercation and her arm hurt from being thrown on the floor.
Law enforcement interviewed victim's teenage son and he reported observing the altercation in the hallway and saw Defendant push his mother. When victim [NAME REDACTED], Defendant acted like he was going to hit her. This is when Victim [NAME REDACTED] was going to grab a knife. The juvenile walked away to the back of the residence. When he came back, the juvenile observed Defendant drop his mother onto the floor by her neck and heard her head hit the floor. The juvenile described the pair tussling before he broke up the fight.
The juvenile reported that Defendant has assaulted his mother in the past and that choking his mother is Defendant's "favorite thing to do". Defendant was located and interviewed. Defendant denied striking, punching, or choking the victim. Defendant claimed that victim [NAME REDACTED]. Defendant claimed that when he tried to break away from victim, that victim lost her footing and fell to the ground. Officers observed injuries on Defendant as well. DV COURT.
