On November 5, 2025, at approximately 8:45 AM, Brooklyn Park officers responded to a weapons carrying call at Brookdale Drive North and Beard Avenue North within the city of Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers received initial information that a black male wearing yellow sweatshirt, dark pants, with dreads was carrying a machete a few feet long. Officers located the suspected male, later identified as EDDIE KORMAH [DOB REDACTED], herein after Defendant, carrying a confirmed machete type weapon.
Officers located him in an intersection and Defendant stopped in the middle of the street. Officers were attempting to get Defendant to put the machete down. He had the machete loose, and appeared to be moving it back and forth from his left hand to his right hand. Defendant would then point it towards the squad car and officers. He then turned away from officers, bringing the machete down towards his side. While speaking with Defendant he appeared agitated, cursing, talking very repetitively and yelling.
Defendant then threw the machete further down York Lane North to the south. He was still agitated yelling at officers about why they were there. Defendant walked out into traffic on Brookdale Drive waving his hands around. He was told that he was not free to go. He then turned around and walked towards officers continuing to yell and point. Defendant was advised he would be detained. At this time, he began to back pedal to attempt to not be detained. Defendant started swinging his arms as officers were trying to get his arms behind his back.
He was then taken down to the ground but was holding his arms preventing officers from being able to put him in cuffs as well as moving and kicking his legs to not allow control of them. After officers were able to handcuff Defendant they stood and escorted him to a squad car. As officers were escorting him to the squad, Defendant threw his head back to the right side, to head butt and strike Victim Officer in the left side of their jaw. Officers observed a red mark on Victim Officer's jaw who described feeling pain and later a continuing headache.
In review of body worn cameras, as officers are handcuffing Defendant they roll him to his back from his stomach, then sit him up on the ground before standing him up, not in a forceful or quick way. After he was stood up his head lunges at Victim Officer. Defendant is currently in custody pending charges from this incident.
