On September 25, 2025, Trooper Collin Adair of the Minnesota State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash in the City of Montrose, Wright County, Minnesota. An adult female identified as D. J. Reported the following: D. J. Was driving a vehicle that was stopped at a red light on U. S. Highway 12 at County Road 12; D. J. Saw a pickup truck coming from behind; The pickup truck was not slowing down; D. J. Moved her vehicle towards the shoulder but the pickup truck still collided with the rear of D. J.'s vehicle.
The pickup truck was identified as a Ford F350. The driver of the pickup truck was identified as Greg Owen Witt [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. Defendant said he was looking at construction equipment on the side of the road and did not realize the vehicle in front of him was braking before he collided with that vehicle. Defendant admitted he was following too closely. On October 8, 2025, an adult male identified as A. E. Reported the following: A. E. Owned the pickup truck and learned of the crash from his company's insurance carrier; Defendant works for A. E.'s company.
Defendant does not have permission to drive any company vehicles, does not drive as part of his work duties, and is not on the company insurance as a driver; Defendant did not have permission to use the pickup truck on September 25, 2025. On October 14, 2025, Trooper Adair spoke with Defendant. Defendant admitted he took the pickup truck the evening before the crash and did not have permission to take and use the pickup truck.
