M., Elk River Officer Mark Edlund was dispatched to The Bank of Elk River, located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] NW in the city of Elk River, Sherburne County, Minnesota on a report of a person presenting a forged check. Upon arrival, Officer Edlund met with one of the bank tellers who presented a check with blue lettering around it from B&E Recycling Station, Inc. It was dated January 3, 2026 and was paid to the order of Marvin Holloway, Jr., in the amount of $2195.00. The bank teller confirmed that the check was originally made out for $70 and was sent to a business in Lakeville, MN. The bank teller told law enforcement that it was her impression that the defendant was unusually talkative with her, so much so that she believed the defendant was attempting to distract her.
She stated that the defendant provided his identification and endorsed the check. Officer Edlund spoke with Marvin Terrell Holloway, Jr, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter referred to as the defendant. The defendant said that he was standing on a corner with a sign asking for help. A guy pulled up saying that he had some work for the defendant to do. The defendant said that the male who offered him work's name was Clarence or TJ. He said that he was going to give the defendant a check to cash. He was going to pay out the cash and then they would do work.
He claimed that the male, who he said was Clarence or TJ, gave him a ride from Minneapolis to Elk River in a gray or silver vehicle. The defendant said that the male's girlfriend was in the car as well. The defendant stated that when they arrived at the bank, the defendant went inside, provided his identification and signed the back of the check. He was aware that the check was issued to him for more than $2000 and he expected to receive $200. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49, intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
