On January 25, 2026, at approximately 1:11 A.M., Ramsey County Deputies responded to the 5000 block of Birch Trail, Shoreview, County of Ramsey, on suspects breaking into the front door of a residence. Deputies arrived and noticed the front door of the residence was off the frame. Deputies made announcements and a male called out to them. The male said he thought the suspects were in the basement. Deputies located a seventeen-year-old juvenile victim, V1, hiding behind a couch and with a gunshot to his lower leg.
No one else was found in the home. Earlier, in the night, deputies responded to the house on a call where males knocked on the door. Deputies obtained a search warrant for the home and executed it. The front door of the residence had significant damage and was hanging from the frame. There was significant blood in the kitchen near a pantry, blood spatter on the walls, and a bullet hole on the floor in the blood. There was blood smear near the landing and down a hallway to two bedrooms. In the door/hallway of upstairs bedroom, a 9mm shell casing was found.
Two pistol magazines were found on the couch in the basement living room. In the basement, there was a high-top bar that had Ziplock bags, packaging tape, and several baggies of marijuana. A large bag of marijuana and US currency in the amount of $15,000 was found in the basement bedroom. A Springfield XD 9mm pistol was found on a couch in the basement living room. V1 was taken to Regions Hospital. He had a gunshot wound on his right lower leg, blood on his nose, and his right eye was red and puffy.
V1 said the two suspects appeared at the door the first time. One of the males asked if “this was the right address.” The males left in a silver SUV, a Subaru Forester. V1 called his father, JM, who told him to call 911. V1 called 911. V1 heard pounding on the door a second time and thought it was the police. He then heard banging and heard parts flying off the wall. He told his dad they were entering the home. V1 ran upstairs and into the pantry. V1 said the males got him in the pantry, and one of them pointed a gun at him and said, “Shut the f*** up.
Give me the phone.” The males kicked him and said, “Where the money at? Where’s the money at?” V1 said they shot once, and then shot a second time. V1 saw a “whole bunch of blood and stuff.” The males took him out of the pantry and pinned him on the floor. V1 had his phone in his hand. The male in the beanie stepped over him, took his phone, and told him to unlock the phone. The males hit and punched V1 while he was on the floor. The males asked him where the safe was. V1 told them they do not have a safe.
Then they asked for the money. V1 said the males kicked, punched, and pistol whipped him. The male in the white beanie punched his feet and the male with the gun held it to his face. V1 unlocked his phone. A shot rang out. The male said, “Nigger, think I’m playing with you.” They then shot again and ran. V1 said the gun was pointed at his head and chest. V1 said he played dead in case the males returned upstairs. He didn’t hear anything and then tried to find his iPad to call police. V1 ran behind a chair, prayed, and then the police arrived.
