At roughly 12:00 am on the night of 12/12-12/13/2025, a vehicle driven by Javier David Tavarez-Mirabal [DOB REDACTED], defendant herein, was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on the 4600 block of Central, in the City of Columbia Heights in the County of Anoka. An officer with the Columbia Heights Police Department clocked Defendant's vehicle traveling 56 mph in a 30 mph zone. The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to catch up to the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop.
The vehicle initially appeared to slow down as the officer approached, but did not stop entirely, after several turns without a stop, the officer activated his siren to signal again to the vehicle to pull over. The vehicle then accelerated, not stopping at a stop sign. Just as the officer had signaled to dispatch that he would be discontinuing pursuit in the interest of safety, the vehicle lost control and swerved left of the road, striking a parked vehicle head on. Defendant was found unconscious in his vehicle after the collision.
Several vehicles were damaged as a result of the collision, as the struck car proceeded to ram into several adjacent ones.
