Count 1Assault-4th Deg-Peace Officer-Transfer Bodily Fluids or FecesAssault
Count 2Disarming a Peace Officer - Take Defensive Device from Peace Officer/AreaOther
This case involves a law enforcement encounter.
Probable Cause
On March 28, 2026, Anoka County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisting Defendant Janelle Gladys Cain ([DOB REDACTED]), who was in custody but needed medical care, and went to Mercy Hospital. Once Defendant was discharged from the hospital, deputies attempted to lift Defendant from her hospital bed and place her in a wheelchair so she could leave. During this time, Defendant became uncooperative, and after being placed in the wheelchair, Defendant spat twice in the deputy’s face, hitting him in the mouth and chin.
During the transfer out of the hospital, Defendant also lunged towards the deputy’s taser and attempted to take it off its holster, putting both of her hands on the device. The deputy was able to evade this, and Defendant was returned to the Anoka County Jail on her previous and new additional charges. It should be noted that Defendant currently has pending cases in Anoka and in Mille Lacs County for obstruction and Fourth-Degree Assault on a Peace Officer. See 48-CR-26-491 and 02-CR-23-6185. On the latter file, Defendant spent over a year on warrant status between court hearings.
