On November 5, 2025, Saint Paul Officers responded to Minnehaha Avenue and Ashbury Street, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on an assault. Dispatch notes included caller reported a male pointed a gun at him. Officers spoke with CME. CME said he was parked near the intersection of Minnehaha and Asbury Street and seated in his Chevrolet pickup truck when an unknown male in the middle of the intersection faced his vehicle and clapped his hands. The male reached into his front waistband, pulled out a firearm, and pointed it at his truck.
After the incident, the male crossed over to the south side of Minnehaha Avenue and Asbury Street, and walked south on Asbury Street. CME followed the suspect from a distance east on Van Buren Street, south on Simpson Street. CME said the male suspect appeared drunk and stumbled as he walked down Asbury Street. CME feared for his life. CME described the suspect as a male, beard, 6 feet tall, wearing a black jacket, blue pants/jeans, a beanie, tennis shoes. He described the firearm as black, and he thought it was a semi-automatic handgun.
Police found the male suspect-later identified as DAVID MORGAN MARKERT, [DOB REDACTED], on Simpson Street. MARKERT matched the description given by CME. Initially, MARKERT complied with commands. He then started to walk away from Officer Piram. Officer Piram wrapped his arms around MARKERT, and took him to the ground. MARKERT was arrested. As officers were arresting MARKERT, a black gun was observed on the ground near his face. The gun is Crosman.177 caliber C)2 powered BB gun. MARKERT appeared very intoxicated, and had an odor of alcohol on his breath.
MARKERT said he did nothing wrong and said police had the wrong guy.
